ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established as one of the three basic engineering departments when the institution was founded in 1963. It has well qualified and experienced teaching faculty and good infrastructure.

B.E. Program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M.Tech. Program in Energy Systems and Management run by the Department have been granted autonomous status by V.T.U. The Department has its own Board of Studies (BoS) and Board of Examiners (BoE) consisting of the staff members of the Department as members in addition to experts drawn from external institutions of excellence and also from industry. The BoS meets as and when required to discuss and update the curriculum. This has helped in making a curriculum that is outcome-based, dynamic, on par with the current developments in technology, to meet the requirements of industry. The Department also has laboratories setup in collaboration with industries like Schneider Electric.

For the M.Tech. Program in Energy Systems and Management which is run by the Department, Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) are sponsoring on an average three to five candidates their working engineers. Curriculum for this program has been designed taking inputs from IIT’s, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, power companies, and other institutions of excellence like The Energy Resources Institute (TERI).

The Department encourages students to go for post-graduate programs by conducting training sessions for preparation for GATE.

The Department encourages students to go for internships at various industries, and other institutes of higher learning during vacations by giving them the necessary support.

The Department also encourages students to make technical visits to industries, generating stations, substations and load dispatch centres for a broader exposure to real life environment.

The Department is also involved in the conduction of teacher training programs in association with IIT Bombay under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), funded by MHRD, New Delhi.

The department has a MOU with BMS College of Engineering in the area of Applications of High Voltage Engineering.

The department has a well equipped Electrical discharge based pollution control research lab funded by AICTE, VTU and DST.

The Department has been receiving funds from VTU, AICTE, and DST for modernization of existing labs and for setting up of laboratories.
